Individual Identification Card (IIC) for Adult-Use Cannabis Employees

The IIC is a mandatory credential for all individuals employed in licensed adult-use cannabis establishments in Maine.

Application Steps

  1. Online Application: Complete the electronic application through the OCP's online portal for faster processing.
  2. Required Documentation: Provide a high-resolution photograph and other required personal information.
  3. Criminal Background Check: Schedule and complete a fingerprinting appointment with IdentoGO for a mandatory criminal history check.
  4. Submission and Fee: Submit the completed application and pay the required fee. The OCP will review your application and mail your IIC upon approval.

Registry Identification Card (RIC) for the Medical Cannabis Program

The RIC is part of Maine's Medical Use of Marijuana Program. The requirements for obtaining this card differ for patients and caregivers.

For Medical Cannabis Patients

Optional: While not mandatory, patients may obtain an RIC after receiving a certification from a licensed physician.

Application Steps:

  1. Physician Certification: Obtain a medical cannabis certification from a licensed Maine physician.
  2. Application Submission: Apply for the RIC online or by mail, providing a copy of your physician's certification and proof of residency.

For Medical Cannabis Caregivers

Mandatory: Caregivers are required to obtain an RIC to legally assist medical cannabis patients.

Application Steps:

  1. Online Application: Complete the application on the Regulatory Licensing & Permitting online portal.
  2. Required Information: Provide all necessary personal information and documentation.
  3. Background Check: Undergo a mandatory criminal background check.
  4. Submission and Fees: Submit the application and pay all applicable fees. The OCP will issue your caregiver RIC upon approval.
